JAMIE Gardiner travels to Portugal today (Thursday) intent on making his mark at the European Snooker Championships.
The Dunamanagh man will compete in both the under-18 and under-21 events and he is hopeful that he can mount a serious title challenge in at least one of them.
Having competed in a previous edition of the underage European’s in Bulgaria several years ago,
the 18-year-old hopes to be able to draw on that experience over the next week.
“I can’t wait! I’ll probably have a few matches a day, but that’s what I’m going over there for, to be tested,” he said.
“I was in Sofia a few years ago and hopefully that experience will help me.
“I want to win it this time, but I’d be happy with a deep run and if I find myself around the quarter-finals then I can realistically look at trying to win it.”
