TOMMY Canning insists his team needs to be gunning for three points when they host Queens on Saturday.
The Dergview boss doesn’t believe it’s a must-win game but insists his players should be targeting maximum points.
That said the Strabane man has watched the students twice this season and has been suitably impressed by Peter Thompson’s team.
“Queen’s I have watched a number of times, I have a couple of pieces of video on them,” he said
“I watched them against Newry and I would imagine that their manager Peter Thompson was very disappointed that they didn’t won that game.
“They are a good side. I also watched them against Ards and they are a really, really good side. They lost their captain early in the season to a cruciate injury but they have Glackin up front and they have quality.
“They are well organised, well drilled and their set-pieces are very well rehearsed. They have a couple of set-pieces that will need to be attended to.
“They won’t hold any fears coming to Dergview. They ran us close in the play-offs in recent times.
“People would have thought that Queens and ourselves won’t be too far apart so they will be coming down the road thinking that they can take something.
“It’s not a must win for us at this stage but it’s definitely a game you are looking at winning. You’re at home and Queens are not going to be a team pushing for promotion or challenging for the title so it’s the kind of game that we will be targeting three points from.”
