Thomas and Ben impress on RTÉ show

A TALENTED local man and his son recently enjoyed the experience of a life-time when they performed on day time TV.

Thomas and Ben Gillespie from Strabane appeared on the RTÉ show, Donncha’s Two Talented last week to show off their impressive vocals.

Young Ben  is an aspiring singer and attends Much Ado Stage School in Castlederg. For the show, he performed ‘The Man That Can’t be Moved’ by The Script and then also performed a duet with his dad, ‘Hero’ by Enrique.

The popular show is hosted by Irish rugby legend Donncha O’Callaghan and produced by Adare Productions. It’s a fun, family show where youngsters chose the talents and then they coach their parents to become show stopping stars.

They then take to the Two Talented stage to perform their double act.

Thomas, who in his own right is a well known country music singer, explained, “It was very, very enjoyable.

“Ben was a bit nervous when he got there. But he came round then and he loved it. It was a great experience for him.”

Thomas and Ben recorded it at RTÉ last August before it was finally aired last week.

“We did some home filming for the actual show as well,” dad Thomas remarked.

“I had got a letter to self isolate so the film crew couldn’t come to the house. Brenda (Thomas’s wife) had to do the filming on her phone. But her hand was steady enough in the end.”

Thomas continued, “It was so funny. They way they did it. The played the song out of Karate Kid, I couldn’t come round for laughing. It was so funny.

“Ben was brilliant too.”
