Kind-hearted sisters help other kids this Christmas

TWO Ballymagorry sisters are helping to spread a little love this Christmas by collecting toys for other local children who have lost parents during the year.

A few months ago Abbey Gale and Destiny McGarrigle embarked on a fund-raising initiative to get money to buy toys for other youngsters.

In particular the kind-hearted siblings wanted to purchase items for children who may have lost a parent during the year. The sisters lost their daddy back in 2015 so have some idea of what these children will be going through. Destiny (aged 10) and Abbey Gale (aged 8) held a number of raffles during the last few months to raise funds for their appeal.

They also received support from Kayleigh’s Candy Facebook page which organised a raffle and used the proceeds to buy toys to donate on behalf of Destiny and Abbey Gale.

They girls handed the toys over to the Kindness of Strangers shop in Strabane just before lockdown and the charity will now start to distribute them to local children.

With lots of experience of taking part in beauty pageants the girls have now entered the Miss Shining Light competition. This particular pageant aims to raise awareness of mental health.

This year the Miss Shining Light Pageant is fundraising for the Foyle Search and Rescue, and this will be the next big focus for Abbey Gale and Destiny. The sisters will raise funds for the charity throughout next year before taking part in the final of the competition next September in the Everglades Hotel.
