General Election 2017

Strabane records high turn out as boxes near closure

election 1

THE turn out in Strabane will be in excess of 60 per-cent, according to figures tonight.

As the 10pm cut off point for voting approaches, almost all polling stations across the town have recorded voter figures of over the 60 per-cent mark.

Once the sums are completed, it looks like the final turn out will stand somewhere between 64 and 65 per-cent, a marked increase on last year.

In May 2016, West Tyrone recorded its lowest ever turn out, of 59.8 per-cent.
