Early Strabane voting slow but steady

VOTERS have gone to the polls in Strabane, with a turn-out best described as ‘slow but steady.’

At polling stations at both sites of St Mary’s Primary School on the Melmount Road, some 587 locals had turned out to vote by 12noon, though at lunchtime the activity outside both stations had increased significantly.


Down the Melmount Road at the polling station at Riversdale Leisure Centre, 316 people had voted out of a total eligible electorate of 2,110.

Onto Barrack Street and first impressions were that early turnout compared to the last election, had actually increased. Out of a total eligible electorate of 1,692, some 292 had already voted.

Polls stay open this evening until 10pm.
